Basic transfer flow
- Open DropDroid on the Android device.
- Start the DropDroid desktop sender on the computer.
- Keep both devices on the same reachable local connection.
- Scan the QR code shown by the desktop sender.
- Select the phone when it appears, or use manual IP entry if discovery is blocked.
- Drop files into the desktop sender and wait for transfer completion.
Supported network setups
DropDroid can work over Wi-Fi, phone hotspot, LAN, Ethernet-to-router, USB tethering, or local VPN/tunnel setups when the computer can reach the phone by local IP.
Received files
Received files are saved on the Android device in the selected folder. The recent files list can be used to open received files with compatible Android apps.
APK install helper
When enabled, APK files are received and then opened with Android's installer. The user must still confirm installation. Only install APKs from sources you trust.
Troubleshooting
- Make sure both devices are on the same reachable local connection.
- Disable network isolation on guest Wi-Fi networks when possible.
- Allow camera permission for QR pairing.
- Allow notifications on Android 13 and newer for foreground receiver status.
- Use manual IP entry if automatic device discovery is blocked.
